Washington Grove, Maryland - 23 November 1999

the Washington Grove Pacer Farm regrets to announce that Pacer Farm Pacer No. 3 has been removed from active service effective immediately, and will be stricken from the roster when its registration expires at the end of the month.  manufactured in 1976, it had attained 56,000 miles.

a viewing will be held at Hanagan's Auto Service, 465 East Diamond Avenue (across from the Washington Grove Post Office).  no services are planned.

Pacer Farm Pacer No. 3 was a registered organ donor - parts will be made available to help keep others on the road.

the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, those who might wish to consider a memorial tribute should remember:

Update

we have received expressions of sympathy and concern from quite a few Friends of the Pacer Farm regarding the situation of Pacer Farm former Pacer No. 3.

we thank all for their concern, and by way of reply to the queries, here's the situation - and an opportunity.

first:  our mechanics have taken a look and advise that the vehicle is still operable - and of course it will be street legal for another week.  we have received a kind offer of temporary off-street storage, which will give us at least some time in which to work out a disposition.

second:  it may well be a good candidate for a restoration - in the hands of somebody with the expertise, time and tools to do the job.  the problem is that we lack the necessary capability, and the Pacer Farm is not in a position to finance having this work done by experts.  we would be quite pleased to make it available to any party interested in such an undertaking, and would be VERY flexible about price in such a case.  failing that, well, it could always be mined for parts in order to keep other Pacers in operation.

for anybody who might have an interest in this vehicle, or in any of its parts: contact us by email to webmaster@pacerfarm.org for full particulars of the vehicle's condition (of course it has some problems, but rust isn't one of them).

preference will be given to those with an interest in restoration - by way of encouragement we'll include the '76 TSM, any stray parts that might be on hand, and a year's membership in the Pacer club (or any other AMC club - your choice).

thanks again to all who expressed their kind wishes.  we're now ready to consider queries from any and all potential good homes - operators (or, in our case, farm hands) are standing by.

A Happy Ending

sometimes an end can also be a beginning.

over the course of several months we heard from several interested parties, but for one reason or another none of them were able to provide a new home for the vehicle.  winter turned to spring, and spring to summer, but nothing happened.

in July, however, a young couple from New Jersey got in touch and expressed serious interest not only in acquisition, but in restoration.  acquiring a Pacer was their dream, and finding owners like them was ours.  they borrowed a flatbed trailer, came down to the Pacer Farm and closed the deal.  these photos show the first stage of the transition.
